The Pet Shop Boys are set to release their fifteenth studio album this spring, titled ‘Nonetheless’. This marks their first album in four years since the release of 2020’s ‘Hotspot’ and features 10 tracks, including lead single ‘Loneliness’ which has just been unveiled. The album is due to be released on April 26 via Parlophone and the duo’s own label, x2.
Pet Shop Boys members Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe worked on the album alongside Simian Mobile Disco member and Arctic Monkeys collaborator James Ford at his East London studio during lockdown. The album itself provides both “dance-oriented” tracks and classic ballads, with each track forming part of the overall narrative of the album. The duo state that while they wanted the album to be an album of celebration for the diverse emotions that make people human, Ford “dared to make us a bit more minimal at times”.
In a press statement released about the album, the synth-pop duo state that they are proud of the “final result” of the record. The wait between Hotspot and Nonetheless is the longest gap in the duo’s discography spanning five decades – the duo’s first album, ‘Please’, was released in 1986.
Pet Shop Boys will be playing five shows at the Royal Opera House this summer at the end of their ‘Dreamworld’ 2024 tour, which ends in celebration of the new album’s release. The wait is eagerly anticipated by fans, and the release of the single and album announcement has generated a lot of excitement.
