Actress Lili Reinhart has shared with her fans that she has been diagnosed with alopecia, a skin disease which can cause hair loss. The 27-year-old made the announcement in a video on TikTok where she borrowed audio from an interview with actor Jeremy Strong and mouthed the words “I’m pushed beyond the limits of what a person should be able to endure.” The accompanying text overlaid on the video read, “Was just diagnosed with alopecia in the midst of a major depressive episode.”
Red light therapy, which is a common treatment method used to stimulate hair growth, has become Lili Reinhart’s “new best friend.” The video showed the star with what appeared to be a red light therapy device on her head. She captioned the video with the hashtags #alopecia and #MentalHealth. Although temporary hair loss is common and can grow back on its own or with medical treatment, it’s not yet known if Reinhart’s hair will regrow.
This is not the first time that Reinhart has been open about her mental health. In 2018, she spoke about her struggles with body dysmorphia, and again in 2019, she took to Instagram to announce that she had started therapy again for her anxiety and depression. Her book, Swimming Lessons, which was published in 2020, details her experience with body dysmorphia and her efforts towards self-love.
