Bob Odenkirk, star of Better Call Saul, was amazed to discover on TV show Finding Your Roots that he is a distant cousin of King Charles III. Host Henry Louis Gates Jr. took Odenkirk through his family history and found out that his fifth great-grandfather is Friedrich Carl Steinholz, the son of the Duke of Plön, and related to the royal families of Europe through his father, giving Odenkirk royal blood.
Despite the interesting discovery, Odenkirk does not support monarchies. When speaking on the show, he said: “It makes me feel like a part of history that I didn’t think I was any part of,” adding that he is “an American,” “not a monarchist,” and that he believes in democracy.
Gates explained that because of Odenkirk’s relation to the Duke of Plön, he and King Charles III are 11th cousins, which caused the actor to joke and say “Well, maybe I’ll change my mind!”
Odenkirk recently starred in Better Call Saul which ended after six seasons in 2022. He also appeared in The Bear season two last year and will next be seen in director Mike Flanagan’s The Room Returns, a remake of Tommy Wiseau’s The Room, alongside Bella Heathcote and Greg Sestero
