Bristol stabbing: Boys aged 15 and 16 killed in attack

Avon and Somerset Police have launched a murder investigation following a stabbing in south Bristol that has left two boys, aged 15 and 16, dead. The attack took place in Knowle West at around 11:20pm on Saturday and was carried out by a group of people who fled the scene in a car. Officers arrived within minutes of being called and gave the boys first aid at the scene, but both died in hospital on Sunday morning. A 44-year-old man and a 15-year-old boy have been arrested in connection with the incident and remain in police custody at this time.

Bristol Commander Supt Mark Runacres called on passengers who were on a bus on Ilminster Avenue, where the stabbings occurred, at the time of the attack to get in touch with police. Formail identification of the victims has not yet occurred and a forensic post-mortem will be scheduled in due course. Several witnesses have already been identified and are being questioned by detectives. The neighbourhood policing team is also setting up a mobile police station near the scene so anyone with concerns or questions can speak to officers.

Supt Runacres reminded anyone who may have information about the stabbing that it was extremely important that there should be no commentary or sharing of information or images online that could in any way prejudice any future proceedings. He also warned social media users that sharing images, footage or even discussing the incident online could cause further upset to the families of the two boys already going through the most difficult of times due to the tragedy.

A cordon is currently in place on Ilminster Avenue between Newquay Road and Tavistock Road, and the public can expect to see a large police presence as forensic searches and other enquiries are conducted. High visibility patrols will also be carried out to provide reassurance to the community
