Justin Timberlake recently revealed that his latest single, “Selfish,” was inspired by John Lennon’s “Jealous Guy.” The artist spoke to Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1 about his new music, which is his first since 2018’s “Man Of The Woods.” Timberlake explained that “Selfish” came about after he sang a cover of Lennon’s song at a small jazz club. He noted that he was drawn to the vulnerability expressed in the lyrics and wanted to explore that same emotion in his own work.
“Selfish” is part of Timberlake’s new album, “Everything I Thought It Was,” which is set to drop on March 15 via RCA. According to the artist, he wrote 100 songs for the album and had to narrow them down to 18. Despite the difficult selection process, Timberlake believes that “Everything I Thought It Was” is his best work to date.
In addition to his new music, Timberlake will also be performing as Saturday Night Live’s musical guest on January 27. He will star in the episode alongside guest host Dakota Johnson. This week’s episode featured Jacob Elordi as the host and Reneé Rapp as the musical guest.
Timberlake has also announced his first live shows in the US in half a decade. The string of live shows will kick off at the Rogers Arena in Vancouver on April 29 and will include stops in major cities such as San Jose, Miami, and New York. General ticket sales will begin on February 2 at 10 am Local time. UK and European tour dates will be announced at a later date.
As for reactions to Timberlake’s “Selfish,” some Britney Spears fans have hit back by getting her song “Selfish” into the charts following the release of Timberlake’s new single. Despite the backlash, Timberlake remains excited about his new music and upcoming projects, including his tour and appearance on Saturday Night Live
