Morrissey has had to cancel two shows due to “unforeseen circumstances” which have since been revealed to be his physical exhaustion. The former frontman of The Smiths was set to celebrate the 20th anniversary of his 2004 classic album ‘You Are The Quarry’. He was scheduled to perform the shows in California over the weekend but had to pull out at the last minute. Morrissey’s tour manager, Donnie Knutson, gave a statement explaining that the singer has been instructed to rest for two weeks and is currently under medical supervision in Zurich.
This troubling news has come amidst the battle between Morrissey and Capitol Records over the release of his latest album ‘Bonfire of Teenagers’. The album was initially supposed to be out in February 2023 but has faced delays since. Morrissey revealed last year that the label agreed to return the album to him for a specific price: “This album was recorded in January 2021 and Capitol signed it and didn’t release it, but they’re now prepared to give it back to me for a certain price”. Morrissey has vowed to fight for the release of the album, stating in a recent interview that it was “very much of the time” and that it had been difficult to work on something that hadn’t been released.
Furthermore, Morrissey has withdrawn from any association with Capitol Records and has accused them of deleting him from the “central essence” of The Smiths. The singer has been busy in recent months creating a stir in the music industry with his controversial opinions and his departure from the label has added another layer of intrigue to his upcoming album.
Morrissey remains an enigmatic and divisive figure, with a lot of anticipation building around ‘Bonfire of Teenagers’. Fans will be eagerly awaiting the release of the album and hoping that Morrissey can return to full health so that he can resume his place on stage
