Guns N’ Roses share AI-generated video for ‘The General’

Legendary rock band Guns N’ Roses have unveiled their most recent music video for their track ‘The General’. While the track was originally released as a B-side to their 2023 single ‘Perhaps’, this new video adds futuristic and dystopian visuals that utilize AI-generated content along with live footage of the band. The video was produced through a collaboration with Dan Potter, the creative director of the London-based studio Creative Works.

The press release accompanying the video states that the video explores the subconscious of a child whose memories of the darkness in his past blur with his present reality. As a result, the shifts between live footage and AI-inspired animation create an experience unlike anything the band has done before and follows in the tradition of their previous iconic music videos.

The track ‘The General’ was initially teased in August 2023 before the band released it alongside their limited edition 7-inch vinyl single ‘Perhaps’ in December of the same year. The recordings themselves, including ‘The General’, were previously unreleased demos recorded during their sessions for ‘Chinese Democracy’. While the release of ‘Perhaps’ was initially postponed due to it being leaked via TouchTunes digital jukebox machines in American bars, it was eventually released in October 2023.

As part of their 2023 world tour, the band played a show at the Glastonbury festival in the UK as well as touring throughout North America and Europe. The tour kept the band on the road for the latter half of the year. While NME’s coverage of the show at Glastonbury initially awarded the performance three out of five stars, the set was hailed as one of the band’s “strongest sets in recent years” despite the lukewarm reception.

Overall, Guns N’ Roses’ latest release is a thrilling visual and sonic experience that pushes the boundaries of the band’s previous work
