The official cause of Dex Carvey’s death, comedian and son of Dana Carvey, has been announced. The 32-year-old passed away on November 15th of last year due to a lethal combination of fentanyl, ketamine, and cocaine in his system, according to reports. Dex’s girlfriend had called first responders when he was found unresponsive in a locked bathroom at a property in Los Angeles, California. Although paramedics were called, Dex was pronounced dead at the scene.

Last year, Dana and Paula Carvey confirmed that Dex had died due to an accidental drug overdose, and the official report released just confirms what they had already reported. The statement they released read: “Dex packed a lot into those 32 years. He was extremely talented at so many things – music, art, filmmaking, comedy – and pursued all of them passionately. It’s not an exaggeration to say that Dex loved life. And when you were with him, you loved life too. He made everything fun. But most of all, he loved his family, his friends, and his girlfriend, Kaylee.”

Dex Carvey followed in his father’s footsteps by becoming a stand-up comedian and opened for Dana on his 2016 Netflix special, Straight White Male. Along with his younger brother Thomas, also a comedian, he teamed up with his father on a podcast series called The Weird Place, which was described as “an episodic sci-fi comedy adventure that will blow your mind,” with “no shortage of action-packed supernatural occurrences.”

Dana Carvey went back to work after two months and opened up about how he was adjusting to the loss of Dex. He returned to his podcast, Fly on the Wall, and said that “riffing with” his friend and podcast co-host David Spade “is going to be very healthy for me as I recover.” Dana discussed what he and his family’s private recovery process had been, explaining that “you just want to make sure you keep moving.
