Devon couple find missing cat after seeing him on TV

A couple in South Devon has been happily reunited with their beloved cat Tigger after he went missing in October. Mike and Marilyn Chard from Bovisand were devastated when their one-eyed cat did not return home for a few days as he had never been away for so long. They thought that he had “gone off to die” and lost hope when he didn’t come back.

Little did they know that Tigger was found by someone the very next day, semi-conscious and taken to the RSPCA, who handed him over to Gables Dogs and Cats Home in Plymouth. Due to not being micro-chipped, the shelter was unable to contact the cat’s owners and gave him a temporary nickname of “Bovi-Mort.”

In a strange sequence of events, Mike and Marilyn were watching BBC Spotlight one night and saw Tigger being held by the general manager of the rescue center. The couple immediately recognized their cat, thanks to the remarkable resemblance. They contacted the shelter and confirmed that the cat was indeed theirs. They were thrilled to learn that they could take him back home with them where he belonged.

The couple adopted Tigger as a stray twelve years ago when he walked into their home through the cat flap with a bent tail and one eye. It was possible that Tigger had an epileptic fit the day he went missing, leading to his being semi-conscious when he was found. The couple was over the moon to have him back and have now micro-chipped him to ensure they don’t get separated again.

The whole experience has been an emotional rollercoaster for the couple and is a reminder to pet owners to microchip their pets to minimize the chances of losing them forever
