Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney wrote ‘Beautiful People’ in collaboration with Dan “The Automator” Nakamura and Beck, among others. Carney revealed that for this project, they wanted to invite their friends to be a part of creating the music, and Auerbach added that they weren’t sacrificing their own style in the process. Instead, they were expanding their palette, and the result is something special.
The new album from the Black Keys is set for release on April 5 via Nonesuch/Warner. Before that, a new documentary about the band, titled ‘This Is a Film About the Black Keys,’ will premiere at SXSW festival, tracing Auerbach and Carney’s rise to fame from two neighborhood kids jamming in an Ohio basement. Jeff Dupre directed the film, who is best known for his 2012 release ‘Marina Abramovic: The Artist Is Present.’
The Black Keys have had a long and fruitful career, with ‘Ohio Players’ following on from their 2022 album ‘Dropout Boogie.’ In a three-star review, NME described the band as “thriving by making music more fit to shake down the walls of their local Nashville dive bars.” The band spoke to NME about their upcoming album, expressing their admiration for Noel Gallagher, who they called “The Chord Lord” due to his perfectionism with chords.
