Boy George’s new book, ‘Karma: The Definitive Autobiography’, has lifted the lid on his interactions with fellow pop star, Madonna. The Culture Club singer has written about his first encounter with the ‘Like A Virgin’ singer and how she accuses him of being bitchy towards her. George claims that because he believes she may have interacted with a different person than him, she may have been mistaken. The memoir also details another run-in with the ‘Material Girl’ in a New York City club called Palladium where Madonna, along with Sean Penn, pretended not to see him.
The singer writes that Madonna has a reputation for being everything people say she is with the added ingredients of her character that change every day. George has not been given the chance to get past their initial bad interactions, so he is unsure if Madonna still dislikes him. He does, however, clarify that he still likes some of Madonna’s songs. He hopes that the two pop stars would eventually be friends, similar to the situation with Bette Davis and Joan Crawford.
Earlier this month, the singer was found to have written about his unfriendly run-ins with Janet Jackson. It included an anecdote about Jackson not acknowledging George backstage on a variety show. When Jackson eventually explained that she did not recognize him earlier, he asked her, “‘Are you saying you would have been nice to me if you knew who I was?’ We parted on awkward terms.”
Boy George is highly regarded for his eccentricities but believes that pop stars should also be approachable like ordinary people. Although he loves the drama of pop star behavior and how Madonna behaves, he would prefer her to be more laid-back. Despite making these less-than-favourable comments about her, George believes that Madonna is a genius and admires her musical brand
