Noah Hawley’s critically acclaimed anthology comedy-crime drama, Fargo, made a comeback in its fifth season with renewed acclamation. The show revolves around different time periods and locations and finds inspiration in the Coen brothers’ 1996 film of the same name. Each season centers on a different story with the Minnesota region as the primary backdrop.
Fargo’s fifth season is set in Minnesota and North Dakota in 2019, with a star cast, including Juno Temple, Jon Hamm, Jennifer Jason Leigh, and Joe Keery. It garnered three Golden Globe nominations, including the one for Best Miniseries or Television Film.
Despite its excellent reception, FX network has not renewed Fargo for its sixth season. However, owing to the critical acclaim the fifth season enjoyed, the show has high chances of being renewed, despite a decrease in ratings in the fourth season.
A potential factor that could delay the show’s sixth season is Hawley’s current involvement in the Alien TV series, which is expected to premiere in 2025. Depending upon its success, it could shift the priorities of FX, and Fargo could be put on the backburner. Despite these possibilities, Hawley isn’t out of ideas yet: “I haven’t run out of ways to tell these stories,” he told Deadline in November 2023. “Why wouldn’t I keep going?”
The previous seasons of Fargo have witnessed a three-year gap between each installment. Thus, if the show makers follow the same pattern, the earliest viewers can expect the sixth season is in 2027.
Viewers in the United Kingdom can stream Fargo on Amazon Prime Video
