Pop megastar, Dua Lipa, has claimed in a recent interview that people may not want her to be “political” or “be smart”, expressing her concerns over the expectations on public figures in her position. As she prepares to release her third album, the singer has questioned whether fans believe she likes to read books or whether she is choosing her own conversation topics. Despite this uncertainty, Lipa affirmed she is more than her profession, stating: “there is so much more to me than just what I do.”
She also responded to criticisms about her frequent trips, explaining how she had only just finished touring until December of the previous year and how people’s attention spans have shortened considerably. Lipa also shared her opinion on artists from the Britpop era, which included Oasis and Blur, describing some of their past behaviour as “obnoxious”.
Lipa’s upcoming album explores her interest in psychedelic pop and is inspired by the likes of Primal Scream and Massive Attack. She has recently made an impassioned plea calling for a ceasefire in Gaza and pleaded for global leaders to speak out. Her work has caught the attention of the Academy Awards, with Lipa being shortlisted for Best Original Song in the 2024 edition of the awards for her contribution to Barbie’s soundtrack. Finally, Lipa will perform during the 2024 Grammys show alongside Olivia Rodrigo and Billie Eilish.
Despite her immense popularity and highly visible public persona, Lipa is keen and willing to show that there is more to her than first meets the eye. She is a person who reads books, with interests beyond music, and as such, she is keen to use her platform to discuss important world events. It’s clear that Lipa is an artist with integrity, passion, and a fierce desire to use her voice to make the world a better place
