English rapper Skepta has joined forces with Odumodublvck and actor Idris Elba on ‘Jangrova’, the first track from the upcoming Tribal Mark soundtrack. The boisterous grime song samples a 2013 hit by Waconzy and Banky W, of the same name and features raps in English and Nigerian Pidgin. The film marks Skeleton’s directorial debut and follows the story of a Nigerian immigrant arriving in London. The project will fill the gap for a strong black character in cinema, according to GRM Daily, and is set for release later this month. Ninety percent of the cast and crew for Tribal Mark were of an ethnic minority.

Tribal Mark will be released in the UK next Friday in Everyman cinemas across the country. The film will be the first released under Skepta’s 1PLUS1 production company. Past Mercury Prize winner Skepta recently announced he is set to release his six studio album, titled ‘Knife And Fork’, later this year. It will be his first full-length effort in five years, his last being 2019 gold-certified ‘Ignorance Is Bliss’. Since releasing ‘Ignorance Is Bliss’, the rapper and his Boy Better Know member Jammer have been focusing on music releases under their new label Màs Tiempo, which features a more electronic sound.

The lead single from Skepta’s album, ‘Gas Me Up’, will be released next Friday to coincide with the release of Tribal Mark. Additionally, the lineup for the Big Smoke Festival – a one-day event curated by Skepta himself – has been revealed. Performers will include Odumdublvck, Lancey Foux, JME, K-Trap, The Streets, Mahalia and more. In recent months, Skepta also paid homage to Amy Winehouse with ‘Can’t Play Myself (A Tribute To Amy)’, which samples the Camden star’s 2007 hit ‘Tears Dry On Their Own’. He has since apologised for earlier artwork for his single that resembled Holocaust imagery and has revised the cover
