Services were cancelled between Birmingham, Redditch and Bromsgrove when a fallen tree caused disruptions to overhead wires at Kings Norton. West Midlands Railway responded to the situation by evacuating over 60 passengers, who were later required to walk along tracks near Longbridge after being ferried from the train. The company worked alongside Network Rail to carry out a “controlled evacuation” before assisting passengers onto coaches. Barnt Green and Kings Norton remain affected due to the fallen tree, though Network Rail is working to remove it and ensure the safety of overhead electric wires.
Alternative travel arrangements have been put in place with coaches that can transport passengers from Longbridge to Bromsgrove, Redditch and Barnt Green, and from Bromsgrove to Droitwich. Meanwhile, Hereford trains have been diverted to the Snow Hill train station, and the process of monitoring the situation and updating passengers is ongoing.
