The renowned Danish artist Courtesy has recently unveiled her brand new record label, Against Interpretation, and has now launched the label’s first track, ‘Let The Music Hypnotise You’, featuring French DJ and creative director Klō aka Soyklō. This release marks Courtesy’s official entry into the dance-music world, after a series of ambient releases, including her debut album ‘fra eufori’, which was released back in 2023. It is worth noting that Courtesy is not a stranger to working alongside Soyklō, with both artists having collaborated previously on a piece titled ‘Gossip II (fra eufori)’, which was presented in Berlin’s Kraupa-Tuskany Zeidler gallery last August.
With the opening of a new chapter that is Against Interpretation, Courtesy has also announced that there will be no future releases on her art-based platform, Kulør, although previous releases will remain up for access. In an official statement, Courtesy spoke on the development, stating that “…over the last year I have loved meeting young dancers and DJs, who I see are open to different genres of dance music and who, like me, believe that high impact on dance floors can come from many different sources and BPMs. The future in dance music is eclectic and I have made Against Interpretation for it.” Her inspiration for the label’s name was borrowed from an essay with the same title, written by the late legendary American author and intellectual, Susan Sontag in 1964.
The name ‘Against Interpretation’ is derived from an essay written by the late American author and intellectual Susan Sontag. Courtesy borrowed the name to christen her new label, and in an official statement expressed how much she has been obsessing over the text lately and how its themes may or may not be relevant for her current project. A collaborative effort with Tiarnan (Spray artist) in production, Leo Luchini on various listening sessions and Young Marco providing indispensable feedback, the graphics of the project were handled by the Dim and Enver Hadzijaj, while Samuel Haitz helped with texts. Additionally, Klō was crucial in making said collaboration possible.
‘Let The Music Hypnotise You’ featuring Klō is available right now through Against Interpretation, and you can check it out via the following link: https://courtesy707.bandcamp.com/track/courtesy-let-the-music-hypnotise-you-feat-kl-against-interpretation
