A family of four, including a man, woman, and two young girls, were found dead by police in their home in Costessey, near Norwich. Norfolk Police were alerted to the situation after receiving a call from a concerned member of the public. The identities of the deceased have not yet been revealed.
Det Ch Insp Chris Burgess, who is leading the investigation, confirmed that the family lived at the Allan Bedford Crescent address, while the woman involved was visiting. Officers were called to the scene at around 07:15 GMT on December 18th, and a knife found in nearby woodland is not believed to be linked to the deaths.
Det Ch Insp Burgess reassured the local community that this was an isolated incident and that the police were doing everything they could to establish the cause of death, while urging people to be cautious about sharing information on social media. Officers previously visited the same address on December 14th as part of a missing persons inquiry, and this will be re-examined as part of the ongoing investigation.
The community has been left in shock, with one resident describing the situation as “very scary.” A Liberal Democrat councillor for Old Costessey on South Norfolk Council, Sharon Blundell, said that support would be arranged for those affected by the incident. The police have informed the family’s next of kin and are remaining at the scene for a considerable time while they carry out their investigations.
The details of this case are still emerging, but it is a tragic incident that has left a community reeling. The police have asked that people respect the sensitivity of the situation and avoid speculation until further information is released
