Music artists Noah Kahan and Sam Fender have joined forces to release a collaborative single titled ‘Homesick’. The song features on Kahan’s 2022 album ‘Stick Season’ and reflects on his complex relationship with his home-town in Vermont. In the song, Kahan expresses his desire to leave and chase his dreams, but also his constant desire to return home. Equally, Fender often writes about his upbringing in North Shields, a shipbuilding town in Northern England.

Kahan was initially inspired by Fender’s music when he first heard ‘Dead Boys’, then followed him obsessively, reading every lyric and interpreting their meanings. ‘Hypersonic Missiles’, in particular, resonated with Kahan: “I must have listened to ‘Hypersonic Missiles’ 1,000 times before ‘Seventeen Going Under’ came out, and I had never felt so connected to a song”. He found the perfect opportunity to collaborate with Fender on ‘Homesick’, a song that encapsulates the nostalgia, pride, bitterness, confusion, and anger they both felt about their respective hometowns.

Fender recorded his parts in North Shields, the site of the infamous riots in the early 90s that has served as inspiration for many of his songs. He describes the Newcastle-based residents as “a hilarious bunch, resilient and impermeable to hard times and hard drinking… a constant source of inspiration”. Meanwhile, Kahan is set to embark on a UK and European headline tour this summer, including shows in London, Manchester, Newcastle, and Birmingham.

Furthermore, Kahan is nominated for the Best New Artist award at the Grammys 2024, due to take place on February 4 in Los Angeles. In other music news, Fender has recently released a soulful new song called ‘Iris’, which features on the soundtrack of ‘Jackdaw’.
