Manchester-based band A Certain Ratio have confirmed details of their new album, ‘It All Comes Down To This’, which was created and produced alongside Dan Carey. The title track features a steady beat akin to ’90s Britpop with elements of post-punk. A Certain Ratio’s latest offering was stripped back by the veteran producer Carey, who helped the band see themselves as just a three-piece band of rockers Jez Kerr, Martin Moscrop and Donald Johnson. Speaking about the album to the press, Kerr said that “Every element of everything we’ve done on this album has been a change.” The new record follows their 2023 album ‘1982’ and is scheduled for release on April 19th via Mute.
Elsewhere in the press release, Moscrop explained that the album was written during a period “while the world was in turmoil, which it still is.” Moscrop called the album A Certain Ratio’s most political offering to date and said: “If you think about climate change, corporate war, the environment, Trump in power, Johnson, the Ukraine war, Israel and Palestine, it really does all come down to this.”
‘It All Comes Down To This’ will include ten songs: ‘All Comes Down to This’, ‘Keep It Real’, ‘We All Need’, ‘Surfer Ticket’, ‘Bitten by a Lizard’, ‘God Knows’, ‘Out From Under’, ‘Estate Kings’, ‘Where You Coming From’, and ‘Dorothy Says’. The album is available for pre-order and pre-save and CDs can be obtained by heading to their website.
A Certain Ratio will also go on a UK tour celebrating the album’s release around the country, kicking off on April 25 in Huddersfield before playing concerts in Leeds, Blackpool, Edinburgh, Norwich, London, Bedford, Brighton, Birmingham, Hull, Sheffield, and Bristol. The tour will wrap up on May 17 in Manchester. Ticket sales are available via ticketmaster-uk.
2020’s album ‘Acr Loco’ had been their first LP in 12 years, following their 2008 album ‘Mind Made Up’. Last year, Kerr opened up about his sexuality in a lengthy post on social media. Jez Kerr is bisexual and crossdressing has been a part of his life from an early age. Kerr has stated that he knows “this isn’t exactly a big deal in 2022, but it is something that I’ve only just managed to deal with and I hope by sharing, it might help someone else.”
