R.E.M., Steely Dan, Timbaland and more to be inducted into Songwriters Hall Of Fame

Five songwriters will be inducted into the Songwriters Hall Of Fame’s 2024 class, including R.E.M., Steely Dan, Timbaland, Hilary Lindsey, and Dean Pitchford. The announcement was made on CBS’s Mornings programme on January 17th.
Leading the charge for the new class is Michael Stipe, Mike Mills, Peter Buck, and Bill Berry, who formed R.E.M. until 2011. They have released 15 studio albums and popular hits such as ‘Losing My Religion’, ‘The One I Love’, ‘Stand’, and ‘Everybody Hurts’.
Following R.E.M. is Walter Becker and Donald Fagen, who formed rock-jazz fusion band Steely Dan until Becker’s death in 2017. The band possesses a discography of nine studio albums and Top 40 hits including ‘Do It Again’, ‘Reelin’ In The Years’, ‘Rikki Don’t Lose That Number’, ‘Peg’, and ‘Hey Nineteen’.
Timbaland, known for his production work for Aaliyah, Ginuwine, Babyface, Missy Elliott, Snoop Dogg, Jay Z, LL Cool J, Justin Timberlake, and more, is the third songwriter named. His songwriting credits include work on Nelly Furtado’s ‘Promiscuous’, Rihanna’s ‘Rehab’ and Madonna’s ‘4 Minutes’.
The other songwriters named are Hilary Lindsey and Dean Pitchford. Lindsey is known for her country music work, including hits for Carrie Underwood, Casey Musgraves, Lady Gaga, and Taylor Swift. Pitchford’s repertoire includes various ’80s film soundtrack hits, including various numbers from Footloose and Fame.
The 2024 Songwriters Hall Of Fame induction ceremony will be held on June 13th at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City. The Hall Of Fame’s website states that more honorary inductees will be announced soon
