London’s Southbank Centre is back with a new series of performances, taking place from March 7-10 this year. The series is called South Asian Sounds and will feature a wide range of genres from the Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, and Afghan diaspora. This showcase of varied musical traditions will include folk, jazz, bhangra, Qawwali and dance music performances from many different artists.
The festival will feature UK-based South Asian dance music collective Dialled In, taking over for two days at the Southbank Centre from March 8-9. On March 8, NTS host Anu will be performing alongside Mumbai’s Kiss Nuka and Southall soundsystem Vedic Roots late into the night at Southbank Centre’s Queen Elizabeth Hall Foyer and the following day will see Dialled In return with a specially curated line-up of classical and contemporary artists including spoken word poets and live musicians at the Queen Elizabeth Hall.
The series will also showcase films looking into the rich history of South Asian music and culture, with performances from orchestras, rappers, folk musicians and many more over the course of four days. South Asian Sounds promises to be an incredible celebration of the richness and diversity of musical forms from South Asian culture and traditions.
Southbank Centre’s Artistic Director, Mark Ball, said: “We’re excited to present such internationally renowned artists representing such a wide range of genres and traditions. Their appeal will reach audiences across the capital’s South Asian diaspora, who make up a fifth of our city’s residents.”
Further programming will be revealed in the coming weeks. If you want to be a part of this amazing experience, you can grab your tickets to South Asian Sounds here
