The tragic deaths of a two-year-old boy and his father have prompted a “rapid review” of the case by officials in Skegness, Lincolnshire. Bronson Battersby was found deceased with his father, identified as Kenneth, on January 9. It is believed that the toddler died from starvation while his father passed away from a heart attack. The family had previously been known to children’s services. Following the incident, Lincolnshire County Council launched its review.
Heather Sandy, the council’s executive director of children’s services, described the situation as “devastating” and “tragic”. She stated, “Kenneth has passed away at his home… he was at home on his own with Bronson and that meant that there was nobody left to give Bronson care, and sadly as a result of that, Bronson has also passed away.” She confirmed that agencies involved with the family would be subjected to the rapid review, which aims to investigate the cause of the deaths.
Sandy confirmed that Kenneth, who was sixty years old, had been seen by a social worker on December 27, and a home visit was scheduled for January 2. When the social worker received no response at home, she tried different locations to locate Bronson. The police were then contacted, but it wasn’t until January 9th that the social worker raised the alarm with the authorities. The council has also pledged support for the family during these difficult times.
Lincolnshire Police, who are not treating the incident as suspicious, have contacted the Independent Office for Police Conduct out of standard protocol. The county did not reveal the family’s last name
