In an interview with Rolling Stone, Dua Lipa has called for a ceasefire in Gaza and for world leaders to stand up against the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas. More than 24,000 people have died on both sides, with staggering numbers of 23,469 Palestinian deaths and 1,200 Israeli deaths. Last year, Lipa joined other celebrities such as Michael Stipe and Cate Blanchett in signing an open letter to President Joe Biden to end the bombing of Gaza and work towards a ceasefire. In the interview, Lipa reaffirmed her stance, explaining that her experience of being in Kosovo and understanding what war does is a significant reason for her visceral reaction to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

Being a displaced person, Lipa feels close to the subject, stating that “no one really wants to leave their home” and that “they do it for protection, to save their family, to look after the people around them, that kind of thing, for a better life”. She urged world leaders to take a political and humanitarian stance and speak up about this man-made humanitarian crisis, making the argument that there are not enough voices weighing in. Lipa empathised with Israeli lives lost, but noted the rafts of innocent civilians dying in Gaza and the necessity for a humanitarian ceasefire.

As for her upcoming album, Lipa told the publication that it was psychedelic-pop-infused and drew inspiration from other musicians such as Primal Scream and Massive Attack. She pinpointed the essence of her album to be a little more raw, capturing the essence of youth, freedom, and letting things happen spontaneously. In a separate part of the interview, Lipa spoke about meeting Kevin Parker, from Tame Impala, in July 2022, confessing that she was so nervous to meet him because she’s “just such a fan of Kevin’s”
