Sarina Wiegman, England’s women’s football team manager, has been named coach of the year for the fourth time, having previously won in 2017, 2020 and 2022. She beat Barcelona Femeni coach Jonatan Giraldez and Chelsea’s Emma Hayes. England goalkeeper Mary Earps was named the world’s best goalkeeper for the second successive year. Earps finished ahead of Mackenzie Arnold of West Ham and Barcelona’s Catalina Coll.
Spain and Barcelona midfielder Aitana Bonmati won women’s player of the year, adding to her Uefa women’s player of the year and Women’s Ballon d’Or accolades. She won the award ahead of her Spain team-mate Jenni Hermoso and Colombia and Real Madrid star Linda Caicedo.
England’s Lionesses managed by Wiegman reached the 2023 World Cup and Euro 2022 final, winning the Women’s Finalissima against Brazil in April, and the Arnold Clark Cup. This was the second time Wiegman has led a national side to consecutive major finals after doing so with the Netherlands in 2017 and 2019. No coach has won a place on the Fifa best women’s coach podium more times than Wiegman, with the Dutchwoman having featured on seven occasions, winning four times.
Manchester United keeper Mary Earps won the Fifa Best goalkeeper prize for the second successive year after a standout performance across the season, which saw her voted as both BBC Sports Personality Of The Year and BBC Women’s Footballer of the Year. Earps also earned a fifth-place finish in the voting for the Ballon d’Or, named Women’s Super League goalkeeper of the year, and was included in the 2022 FIFPro Women’s World XI
