Yard Act has released their latest single, titled ‘We Make Hits’. The song is described as an “ode to friendship” by frontman James Smith, reflecting on the band’s transition from working in Smith’s house to working in the spare room of Ryan’s house. Despite the changes in their lives, their core friendship has remained the same and this is what the song essentially is about. The accompanying music video, directed by James Slater, tells the story of two hapless hitmen who turn to assassinating for the Holy Global Enterprise after receiving an eviction notice for their student bedsit.
‘We Make Hits’ is the latest addition to the band’s forthcoming second album called ‘Where’s My Utopia?’ which is scheduled to release on March 1. The album has been co-produced by the band and Remi Kabaka Jr, who is known for being a member of Gorillaz. Yard Act’s debut album ‘The Overload’, which was released in 2022, was nominated for the prestigious Mercury Prize. The band will be embarking on a UK and European tour this year, which includes a massive homecoming show at Leeds’ Millennium Square on August 3.
Yard Act’s series of singles including ‘Petroleum’ and ‘Dream Job’ have been well received, generating a lot of hype around the band’s second album. Speaking to NME, James Smith suggested that the album is a “party album” and “there’s a lot of humour in this record”.
