The BBC is holding an auction of rare vinyl and audio equipment from its archive

A collection of rare vinyl, audio equipment, and memorabilia from the BBC archives is set to be auctioned off by Omega Auctions. The auction will begin on January 30, with online bidding already underway. The collection consists primarily of duplicate LPs, to allow for better storage and preservation.

Included in the collection are albums by David Bowie, Pink Floyd, and Black Sabbath, alongside single records and record packs grouped by genre or record label. The genres represented in the collection include rock, blues, jazz, classical, folk, metal, psych, R&B, punk, and indie from the 60s and 70s.

Memorabilia items up for auction include the BBC’s original foyer neon sign, an original 1970s ‘ON AIR’ lightbox, and a Type B console previously used by the broadcaster, estimated to fetch £200-£400.

The auction, titled ‘The BBC Collection – Sale One,’ marks the beginning of an ongoing selling process for this particular collection, and does not constitute the entirety of the BBC’s vinyl archive. Interested bidders can view and bid on the items on Omega Auctions’ website
