David O. Russell, who directed films such as “Amsterdam” and “Silver Linings Playbook,” has been confirmed to helm an upcoming biopic about legendary Latin musician Linda Ronstadt’s life and career, according to a report from Variety. The film is currently in pre-production, and its title has not yet been announced. Last week, it was revealed that Selena Gomez will portray Ronstadt in the film, with producer John Boylan and James Keach also attached to the project. Further details, including additional cast members and a release date, have yet to be disclosed.

In recent news, Ronstadt’s classic hit “Long Long Time” enjoyed a surge in streaming numbers after it was used in the third episode of HBO’s The Last Of Us. Ronstadt retired from music in 2011 after being diagnosed with progressive supranuclear palsy, which was initially misdiagnosed as Parkinson’s disease. She has since addressed that she is no longer able to sing.

In regards to Gomez, the upcoming role in the Ronstadt biopic aligns with the singer’s recent interest in acting, as she shared earlier this year that she is considering quitting music to return to acting full-time. Gomez expressed that while touring and making music was enjoyable, she began as an actress and would like to settle down in one profession as she gets older.

O. Russell’s involvement in the upcoming Ronstadt biopic, teamed with Gomez’s acting efforts, could mean that the film is set to be a blockbuster success. Amid scarce details about the release, fans will have to wait for further announcements to learn more about the title and cast of the highly anticipated biopic
