After a grueling 10-hour search and rescue operation, a lone walker has been located and returned to safety. The Cairngorm and Braemar Mountain Rescue teams were called out on Saturday evening after the man’s phone was traced to the north side of Ben Macdui. Unfortunately, the treacherous weather conditions made it impossible for a rescue helicopter to be scrambled.
Despite the challenging blizzard-like conditions, the teams persisted in their efforts and were eventually able to locate the lost walker at approximately 11:30 pm. They quickly escorted him off the mountain and back to safe ground. Footage from the rescue effort showed rescuers navigating through heavy snowfall and howling winds on skis.
A statement posted on social media by Braemar Mountain Rescue confirmed that it had been a “very long night” for all involved in the operation. The teams’ hard work paid off in the end, and everyone involved can breathe a sigh of relief that the lone walker has been returned to safety.
This incident serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of being prepared when venturing into the wilderness. Even the most experienced hikers can find themselves in dangerous situations due to sudden changes in weather conditions. The brave men and women of the Cairngorm and Braemar Mountain Rescue teams risked their own safety to help a fellow human in need, and their efforts are truly commendable
