Six held over plot to disrupt London Stock Exchange

The Metropolitan Police have arrested six people in connection with an alleged plot to disrupt the London Stock Exchange. According to reports, it’s believed Palestine Action activists were planning to stage a protest to stop trading. All six remain in custody.

The arrests were made following information provided by the Daily Express. Detective Superintendent Sian Thomas said: “these are significant arrests. We believe this group was ready to carry out a disruptive and damaging stunt which could have had serious implications had it been carried out successfully.” She added that the police were in contact with other forces, including the City of London Police to ensure any further disruptions were controlled.

It is believed that the London Stock Exchange was just one potential target among a wider planned week of action. Det Supt Thomas thanked the Daily Express for their willingness to provide information gleaned from their investigation, saying it was instrumental in helping the police intervene successfully. She added that officers were able to act quickly, despite only being given the material on Friday afternoon, due to the determined efforts of the Met’s public order crime team, and their colleagues in Merseyside
