A new radio station is set to launch in Bristol from an undisclosed location, according to Bristol 24/7. The radio station called Workshop Radio, will be available for artists to apply to host a show or residency. They are looking for DJ’s, producers and hosts of all levels to submit concepts, the genres of interest, sample shows and prior radio experience.
Although the location of the studio has not been revealed, it is reported that it will be based somewhere in the Bishopston area, north of Bristol. The shows will initially take place live and in-person, with pre-recorded shows becoming available in the distant future. The station is already live via a Mixcloud page and social media accounts, first teasing it’s launch in December with a video captioned “coming soon”.
Workshop Radio has called out for Bristol based artists to submit their shows. They are adamant that no experience is necessary and support will be given to those who lack confidence or experience. Bristol’s music scene is widely regarded as one of the most innovative and creative in the UK, and the launch of a new community radio station is seen as a boon for local artists.
Bristol’s 1020 Radio recently ceased broadcasting after eight years because of increasing costs. However, the launch of Workshop Radio proves that the city’s radio scene is still vibrant and forward-thinking. The owner of 1020 Radio, who also runs a record shop in Bristol lamented the fact that they had to close the curtains on a wonderful project.
