Thomas Bangalter of Daft Punk has created the original score for the upcoming Salvador Dali film, “Daaaaaalí!”. An Instagram announcement from Ed Banger Records published the news: “Let’s start 2024 with something very special! Thrilled to welcome Thomas Bangalter on Ed Banger Records for the release of the original soundtrack of DAAAAAALÍ”.
The French comedy, directed by Quentin Dupieux – also known as the DJ Mr Oizo – follows the story of a journalist meeting with Spanish surrealist artist Salvador Dalí. It’s described as an “unproductive documentary project” by the synopsis.
“Daaaaaalí!” premiered at the Venice International Film Festival in 2023 and was billed as a “real fake biopic” following the artist Salvador Dali. Dupieux has directed eleven feature films before, including his horror-comedy film “Rubber” and his dark comedy, “Yannick”.
Dupieux and Bangalter have been friends for a long time, and the musician made an unmasked cameo in the director’s 2014 film “Reality”. The limited edition of the two-track black 10” EP with a poster is now available for pre-order and would be available on February 7, the same date as “Daaaaaalí!” hits French cinemas.
Last year, Bangalter released his first solo project “Mythologies” since the split of Daft Punk in 2021. The album was originally made for the ballet of the same name choreographed by Angelin Preljocaj and premiered at the Orchestre National Bordeaux Aquitaine. You can check out the ace score by pre-ordering it on Ed Banger Records’ website
