NASA’s Kennedy Space Center to throw an after-hours “techno party”

NASA’s Kennedy Space Center is set to host its first-ever techno party called “Kennedy Under the Stars”. The event will take place on February 2 and the space agency’s research centre will transform into a rave with a DJ-designed techno party, glow-in-the-dark elements, and a neon mini-golf section. NASA astronauts Christopher Ferguson and Nicole Stott, who have both spent more than 30 days in space, are among the guests invited for the party.

Although NASA’s agenda to host such an event may seem odd, the agency aims to open its doors to a wider range of audiences and push its mission beyond scientific and engineering communities. Other iconic attractions inside the centre, including the Spaceport KSC ride, the space shuttle Atlantis, and a SpaceX Falcon 9 booster, will remain open throughout the night, offering lower wait times.

Located on Merritt Island, Florida, the Kennedy Space Center is one of NASA’s main launch sites. The centre was opened in 1962 when the US space agency launched the Apollo 11 mission and successfully landed Neil Armstrong on the moon. NASA has already started selling tickets for the rave night and urging ravers to showcase space-themed fancy dresses and enjoy food, cocktails, and the perfect blend of techno and space science.

This innovative event is part of NASA’s breakthrough in presenting scientific achievements and technologies to the general public, giving them a glimpse of the agency’s work that mainly focuses on exploration and discovery. NASA aims to encourage more people to show interest in space science by hosting fun events such as Kennedy Under the Stars
