A three-day rave held near a five-star campsite in Cornwall has been criticised for keeping over 1,000 guests awake at night. Treloy campsite owners, Abby and Richard Paull lodged a complaint against the organisers of the “unregulated loud rave music” at their neighbouring field, alleging that it continued beyond 2am at an ‘incredibly high disturbing volume’. They also argued that the ‘unpleasant noise’ of the music made it feel as if there was an illegal garage in the field next to their ‘family-friendly’ campsite.

The event organisers, however, have said that the noise allegations were “untrue”, revealing that a silent disco played until after 2am which did not emit any sound, adding that the campsite remained quiet for the rest of the night. Run to the Sun, the annual music and car festival which took place in Newquay early last year, is facing the risk of the revocation of its licence due to this complaint and others it has received.

Run to the Sun organisers informed the council that these allegations were unjustified and there was no evidence to back them up. In a statement, event organiser Andreas Christopheros apologised, saying that he was surprised that contact details of the organisers were unavailable to the Paulls. He also said that the event will not increase in size for its 2024 event and music equipment will be moved away from the campsite.

The Paulls and other campsite owners have asked the council’s licensing team to refuse a one-year licence for the future RTTS 2024 event, which could lead to the event being cancelled or relocated. Run to the Sun first took place in 1987 and recently returned to Cornwall after a ten-year absence. It attracted over 3,000 people and took place over the May bank holiday weekend last year
