After being accused of being a “Nazi” by critics, Grimes, a Canadian singer and DJ, responded on Twitter, stating that she is a “human supremacist” who is “proud of white culture.” Even though her remarks sparked a debate about racism and white culture, she claimed that she thinks fondly of the brown king Cyrus the Great who invented the first-ever empire and the Japanese icon Murasaki Shikibu, who wrote the first novel ever, every day.
Grimes quickly came under fire for her comments, which were made in response to critics labelling her as a white supremacist for reportedly liking Nazi memes on Twitter. In response, she stated, “I’m a human suprematist – humans are amazing.” She also claimed that all cultures have participated in horrible things and that the industrialisation of slavery is arguably the cause of decline of “all” empires before the current one.
Furthermore, Grimes was accused of Western ignorance when she claimed that she wanted to integrate the incredible accomplishments of others into Western education while allowing pride for white people’s accomplishments as well. She believes that non-European achievements have been terribly erased and that history should be taught much more comprehensively.
It is worth noting that Grimes’ comments come amidst a child custody battle with Elon Musk. She alleged in October that Musk has refused her access to see their children and is now suing over parental rights. The lawsuit is still ongoing.
