Police in Stafford have reported a murder investigation into the death of a 77-year-old woman. She was found within a residence located along Orchard Street late on Friday night, after which police were notified. Arrested on the same night on suspicion of murder, was a 78-year-old man from Stafford who has since been released pending further inquiry.

The woman’s next of kin have been informed, and police have asked anyone with information to come forward, requesting they contact Staffordshire Police on 101. The local police are being supported in their ongoing investigations by the Force’s Serious and Organised Crime Department. It is thought that the woman died within the same evening that the police were notified of her death.
