Following a house fire in south London, UK, police are attempting to identify the victims while tracing their families. The fire which broke out just before 23:00 GMT on Friday, killed three men and left another in a life-threatening condition. A fifth man who was treated and discharged from the hospital is also believed to be a Polish national. It is speculated that all five men could possibly be Polish nationals.
The reason for the fire is still under investigation by fire officials and police. The man being treated in the hospital is also said to be in his 30s. Two men in their 40s and 30s, respectively, died on the scene, and the third person passed away in the hospital on Saturday afternoon. Police said they had “made significant progress” in identifying the victims’ identities.
The incident has been described as “extremely tragic” by the Metropolitan Police’s Ch Insp Imran Asghar, noting it to be an extremely sad incident. As the search for the victims’ families and the investigation continues, authorities have called upon the public to come forward with any information that may be of help.
