Eleven passengers were injured when a Manchester-bound flight from Barbados experienced unexpected turbulence, according to P&O travel firm. The incident occurred on a Maleth Aero flight, with around 225 individuals aboard who were returning from a P&O Caribbean cruise. The turbulence took place two hours after taking off; the fallout resulting in pilots being forced to divert the plane to Bermuda. Upon landing, 11 passengers were given medical treatment for minor injuries.
Originally the passengers were due to return to Manchester on Christmas Day, however due to flight availability and airport operating times, they will now depart for Manchester later than originally planned. When the passengers arrived in Bermuda they were given accommodation at local hotels over the festive period according to a P&O spokeswoman.
The airline company apologized to the passengers stating that their happiness and well-being is their top priority, adding; “We are very sorry for this disruption to the journey following their holiday and we worked round the clock with the airline and hotels to take care of the guests, and to ensure they get home as soon as possible.” There have been no reports of any major injuries.
