This holiday season, King Charles III will give his festive message to the nation and Commonwealth in front of a living Christmas tree that can be replanted after the holidays. Buckingham Palace shared an image of the monarch standing beside the sustainable tree adorned with eco-friendly decorations in keeping with his environmental campaigning efforts.
The Christmas message will air at 3:00 PM GMT on Monday. The King will make his address from a room leading out to Buckingham Palace’s balcony, with the Victoria Memorial on the Mall visible in the background. It is not yet known what issues the King will discuss in his second festive address. In 2022, his message included personal reflections, topical issues facing the nation, and the Christian faith.
King Charles III has continued to raise awareness about environmental issues since becoming monarch, including giving a speech at the recent COP28 Climate Change summit in Dubai. It is the first time a living, replantable tree has been used in the background for the annual festive address. These trees are considered better for the environment since they can be dug up at the roots and kept in a pot to be reused the following year.
The king and Queen Camilla will spend Christmas at Sandringham House in Norfolk, where they are expected to attend a morning church service. Sustainable decorations made of materials like paper, wood, and glass can be seen hanging from the tree branches, along with pine cones and dried oranges
