Project 6 has teamed up with Rinse FM to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the legendary UK underground radio station. With roots as a pirate radio station founded by Geeneus and friends, including Slimzee and Wiley, Rinse FM has played a crucial role in the birth and rise of genres such as grime, dubstep and UK funky in the 90s and 00s. The station has since welcomed thousands of worldwide talents, including the recently announced line-up for the May 24th day festival, held in Brockwell Park.

Whilst initially broadcasting from a tower block in Tower Hamlets, Rinse FM has since expanded to a network of radio stations, including a Paris-based station, Kool FM, and SWU FM. The station has credited itself with the discovery of influential grime stars such as Dizzee Rascal, Julie Adenuga, Maya Jama and Jyoty. Co-founder Geeneus stated that he would always put new talent forward ahead of big names, regardless of age or experience.

The day festival, held in celebration of Rinse FM’s 30th anniversary, features heavyweight performances by the likes of Freddie Gibbs, Madlib, Katy B, Benga, Casisdead, Mala, Shy FX, Taylah Elaine, Vigro Deep and sim0ne. Fans of Katy B will be pleased to know that the London-born songstress will be performing on the day, thanks to the success of her album ‘On a Mission,’ which was released by Rinse and Columbia Records and included hits such as ‘On a Mission’ and ‘Lights On’ featuring Ms. Dynamite.

Rinse FM continues to be an integral part of London’s music scene, and its global influence is evident in the artists it has helped to discover and the labels it champions, such as 1985 Music, Hessle Audio, Ilian Tape and Jossy Mitsu. By celebrating 30 years of persevering through legal and practical challenges, Rinse FM shows no signs of slowing down and will continue to be a pioneer in cultivating new and exciting talent for years to come
