Coldplay fans around the world showed interest in a guitar signed by all four members of the band which was sold for £3,500 at auction. The Classic Vibe Telecaster by Fender was donated to two Somerset village schools, Rode and Norton, and raised funds for play equipment, building heating, and a minibus.
Jill Clay, from Friends of Rode and Norton Schools commented on the proceedings: “We put it on auction for 99p 10 days ago. So, we were completely shocked to raise so much for our school. It’s incredible… The guitar was donated to us by a friend of the school and we’re very grateful to Coldplay for signing it.”
Bids for the classic guitar came from as far as Japan and America. Ms Clay reflected on the international attention it garnered: “We don’t know who the buyer is, but it’s off to America. This money raised will make a huge difference to the schools.”
Coldplay’s lead singer, Chris Martin, joined guitarist Jonny Buckland, bassist Guy Berryman and drummer Will Champion in signing the instrument. Fans worldwide cheered on as they helped to raise crucial funds for the upkeep and improvement of the small village schools.
The guitar is set to reside in America with the lucky buyer and will remain a cherished memory of the iconic band’s contribution to the welfare of students at Rode and Norton
