Derek Draper, the husband of ITV presenter Kate Garraway, remains in a “very serious condition” after contracting Covid-19 in March 2020. The former political advisor has been in and out of the hospital with extreme complications and long-lasting damage to his organs. Last Sunday, it was reported that Draper was back in the hospital after another setback. Garraway’s co-stars on ITV have expressed their love and support for the family.
During Monday’s episode of Good Morning Britain, Richard Madeley assured the family that they are in the thoughts of the show’s hosts and audience. Madeley said that he wanted to “let Derek, Kate and of course the whole family know that we are all here thinking of them.” Charlotte Hawkins added, “It is indeed [a difficult time]. Lots of love from all of us.”
In April 2021, Garraway shared that Draper had returned home after spending over a year in the hospital. However, Draper still requires 24-hour care and is unable to move. Garraway expressed that “it’s not just help with looking after him…it’s going to take a lot of adjustment.” The family’s journey to adapt to their new way of life due to Draper’s rare condition was documented in ITV’s Finding Derek.
