Irish electronic duo The Cope has unveiled their latest album, ‘DANCER’, comprised of 12 tracks created during the pandemic lockdowns. Their objective was to create soundscapes that capture the collective longing for communal celebration, thereby making it an ode to the transformative capacity of music. The record features pulsating electronica, piercing synths and hypnotic, delicate vocals. The Cope performed their new album during the summer across their festival appearances, bringing the much-needed music back to the people.
“We had two goals in mind,” the duo said. “Firstly, we wanted to create music that we ourselves would want to hear when people could finally return to the dance floor. Secondly, we wanted to craft the kind of music that compels people to dance, creating an immersive experience that captures the diverse moods of a night out. Our sole aim is to incite movement in people. Seeing those crowds lose themselves in our performance is the ultimate validation that we’ve achieved our artistic objectives. There’s no greater fulfilment than that.”
The Cope collaborated with writer and director Jamie Delany to create a short film set against the backdrop of Donegal, addressing the universal challenges faced by contemporary youth. The film follows a dance film for ‘Oíche / Back on My Bullshit,’ which previously won best dance film at the Cannes World Film Festival. To accompany the album release, the film showcases the duo’s artistic vision and exploratory style.
The latest album by The Cope is an embodiment of their objective, to create music that celebrates communal gatherings and transforms the listener’s state of mind. The album is available for streaming on various platforms, while the short film is a testament to the beauty of artistry and exploration in contemporary music creation
