Specialist divers have been brought in to aid the search for a missing man who disappeared following a night out in Ipswich. Suffolk Lowland Search and Rescue (Sulsar) has used kayaks to search the River Gipping in the town this week. Julian De Bono, 63, was last seen on Yarmouth Road, Ipswich at 1:45 am on Sunday, heading towards London Road. Drones have also been used as part of the search, and specialist divers are expected to enter the river on Saturday.
Mr. De Bono, from Ipswich, is described as 6ft 1in (1.85m) tall and of slim build, with a receding hairline and a trimmed grey and black beard. He was wearing a white, partially see-through shirt, with red trousers and high-shine black shoes. Police have appealed for CCTV and dashcam footage from the area that may aid the investigation. CCTV footage and eyewitnesses have placed him on Yarmouth Road shortly before 2 am, but Suffolk Police have re-appealed for information.
Ch Insp Richard Burton has said the police “want to give the water as much attention as possible”, as it is “out of character” for Mr. De Bono, who has not been missing before. “We’ve carried out house-to-house inquiries, as well as digital and financial inquiries,” he said. Mr. De Bono’s family has appealed on Facebook for anyone with information to get in touch, and police said Sulsar was supporting the investigation and had searched the banks of the river, near Yarmouth Road, using kayaks.
“We can’t rule anything out,” added Ch Insp Burton. “They’re very concerned, as you would expect, so we’re doing everything we can to provide them the support that they deserve.” The search for Mr. De Bono continues, and anyone with information is urged to contact the police
