Kevin Sinfield, a Leeds Rhinos legend, has completed his 7 in 7 in 7 Challenge, generating more than £825,000 for motor neurone disease. The fundraiser consisted of seven ultra-marathons over seven consecutive days in seven different cities, including Edinburgh, Dublin, and Birmingham. The goal was to raise £777,000 for motor neurone disease, which he surpassed before concluding in London on Thursday.
Sinfield stated that he believed “money shifts the dial and changes things,” stressing that the donations were essential. Since his former teammate, Rob Burrow, was diagnosed with motor neurone disease in 2019, the ex-rugby star has already raised millions for charitable causes.
Sinfield expressed his gratitude for the contributions and praised the MND community for their strength and influence, saying that “it needs all of us to keep fighting.” The donations illustrated how communities can rally together to combat difficulties, according to him.
Each of the seven runs consisted of a complete marathon, with one extra mile added to symbolise the additional effort one can make to support a friend in tough times. The former Leeds Rhinos star said that all the individuals who came out onto the streets to support him in bad weather were “so humbling.”
Sinfield completed more than 190 miles throughout the week and took the opportunity to speak about the resilience of the human body, highlighting that it is unable to repair itself after severe activities like multiple marathons. He also emphasised the importance of finding a cure for motor neurone disease
