Manchester City have been charged by the Football Association for not controlling their players during Sunday’s 3-3 draw with Tottenham. In the closing minutes of stoppage time, referee Simon Hooper initially awarded City the advantage and waved play on, but halted the game after a pass was made. Players surrounded Hooper when he awarded a free-kick to City, after it looked like Jack Grealish was going to score. The defending champions have until 7 December to respond to the charge.
According to an FA statement, City failed “to ensure their players do not behave in a way which is improper.” Several City players including striker Erling Haaland remonstrated with the official and continued protesting after the game. However, the FA will not make any further charges related to the fixture. The draw puts Manchester City third in the Premier League table, with a three-point gap to leaders Arsenal.
This is the third Premier League game in a row that City has drawn, coming after being held by Liverpool and Chelsea. City is struggling to find form as it fights for another Premier League title. If they are unable to improve their form, it could put yet another season in question.
