The debut EP ‘Voychek’ from Nectax has been shared on Over/Shadow. The album contains four tracks, including a remix from DJ Sofa of the title track in a ’93 style. Nia Archives and DJ Flight play the original in their sets. Nectax pays homage to a variety of club music genres in each track, including jungle, techno, drum ‘n’ bass, hardcore, and footwork.
As Nectax comments to Mixmag, “The title track ‘Voychek’ is almost entirely made up of the Amen break – even the intro pad sounds are an Amen snare with a load of reverb on. The track actually started off as a way to kill time whilst on the ferry to Amsterdam. My mate and I thought it could be fun to each try to make a whole tune using just one break; ‘Voychek’ was born.”
The Voychek EP is part of part 4 of the label’s Quadrant series and is inspired by Moving Shadow, where Over/Shadow derived. Quadrant encourages collectors to piece together each release artwork to form a completed image, similar to Moving Shadow’s 1994 vinyl abstraction Two On One.
Last month, DJ Flight featured Nectax on her Kool FM show, describing him as “one of nextgen jungle’s brightest stars and the provider of a large part of my sets over the last couple years”. As co-founder of popular party STEREO 45, Nectax is flying the flag for faster sounds in the North East of the UK.
