Nigel Harman pulls out of Strictly Come Dancing

The BBC has announced that television actor Nigel Harman has withdrawn from Strictly Come Dancing’s quarter-finals after sustaining an injury. Harman was set to Charleston with professional partner Katya Jones, but was unable to perform due to the unspecified injury. The remaining contestants are Ellie Leach, Annabel Croft, Layton Williams and Bobby Brazier. Harman was an addition to the show this year, remarking that he was “amazed, excited, and terrified” by the opportunity.

The announced withdrawal from the competition means that one of the remaining players may face elimination later tonight. However, a BBC spokesperson has stated that further details will be revealed during the live television broadcast this evening. The quarter-finals are taking place as part of Musicals Week, and Harman was due to dance to a cover of “Step in Time”, taken from Disney’s Mary Poppins. Harman and Jones last performed together on Saturday, dancing a Rumba for which they were scored 33 points.

Strictly fans expressed concern for Harman on social media, wishing him a speedy recovery. One opined that Harman should be given a free pass into next week’s episode, while another called their absence from the live UK tour next year “interesting”. Harman was joined on tonight’s program by fellow actor Bobby Brazier, tennis star Annabel Croft, Coronation Street’s Ellie Leach and theatre and TV star Layton Williams.

The news marks further disappointments for this year’s show, after actor Amanda Abbington also withdrew in October, citing personal reasons. It remains to be seen whether an elimination will take place tonight, in light of Harman’s injury
