Carrickfergus: Teen charged after petrol bombs thrown at police

A 15-year-old boy has been charged in relation to an attack on the police where two petrol bombs were thrown at officers in Carrickfergus, County Antrim. The incident happened in the early hours of Saturday when police were dealing with an abandoned vehicle on Davys Street. Fortunately, no one was injured and there was no damage caused during the attack.

The teenager is facing a range of charges, including assault on police, disorderly behaviour, possession of a petrol bomb in suspicious circumstances, and throwing a petrol bomb. He is due to appear at Belfast Youth Court on 29 December. Police are currently working to identify at least two other men who were present during the attack.

Detective Inspector Lenaghan has commented on the situation, describing it as “very fortunate” that no officers were hurt during the attack. Police are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward and assist with their investigation.

This incident is just one example of the dangers faced by police officers while carrying out their duties. Despite this, officers continue to put themselves in harm’s way to ensure the safety of their communities. The charges facing the teenager involved in the Carrickfergus attack show just how seriously police take this kind of behaviour. The authorities will continue to work to ensure that those who endanger the lives of others face the full force of the law
