Omid Scobie, an author who wrote a book about the Royal Family, has denied that the naming of two individuals was a deliberate attempt to boost publicity. Scobie said he had “sworn on my life” that the naming was not an orchestrated stunt. The inclusion of two names in the Dutch translation of Scobie’s book Endgame caused a sensation in the UK media as two royals were said to have asked about the skin colour of Prince Harry and Meghan’s son. Scobie claimed that the names were not needed to have the discussion, and that their inclusion was unnecessary. Buckingham Palace is said to be considering legal action against journalist Piers Morgan for naming the two individuals.
The author appeared on the BBC’s Newsnight program to rebut the publicity stunt claims. He stated that he has no idea how the names ended up in the Dutch translation of the book. Scobie also revealed that he was hurt by the accusations of a publicity stunt as it feeds into something that could not be further from the truth. Furthermore, he stated that he is looking forward to finding out more about the controversy’s social media coverage.
Scobie maintained that he had not submitted a book containing their names. The Dutch version of the book has since been withdrawn from sale by publishing house Xander Uitgevers. It would be re-released on Friday, in a rectified version, according to the firm’s Managing Director, Anke Roelen. The subject of racism within the Royal Family has generated considerable media attention in recent weeks. Meghan and Prince Harry supplemented the accusations which initially surfaced during their interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021.
Finally, Scobie said that the controversy surrounding the book has overshadowed its release, and he has received death threats instead.
