A new eight-track record is being released by Manchester-based dubplate service Manuka. The compilation, titled VA MNK020, marks Manuka’s 20th release and all proceeds will be donated to PAPYRUS, a UK charity dedicated to the prevention of young suicide. Each track on the record provides a signature Manuka sound, expanding across multi-genres, including breaks, jungle, bass, and 140 BPM bass-loaded sounds. The release features contributions from Hypho, Ethos, Sickarone, Waylo, DJ MADD, Samurai Breaks, Ooah, and Rudoh, all of whom donated their work to contribute to the fundraising for the PAPYRUS charity.
The Manuka team explained that the move was inspired by its passion for raising awareness of the importance of mental health and emotional wellbeing in young people in the UK. The team expressed that the cause is close to their hearts, and they are pleased to donate 100% of the Bandcamp earnings to Papyrus. Colorado dubstep producer Waylo shared his excitement, saying, “It’s crazy to see myself on a release amongst dons like Ooah, Samurai Breaks, DJ MADD – but the real dub here is knowing that proceeds raised from this release are going to help suicide prevention in the UK.”
The release is described as a “compilation of multi-genre bass music”, all of which ties together by means of Manuka’s signature sound. The fundraising album can be purchased via Manuka’s Bandcamp page. While the future of charity fundraising albums is bound to become more important in the future, particularly during challenging times, this release represents a great success for the group and reflects the impact that music can have.
